A viral YouTube video of tricorne hat-wearing historical reenactor cooking an 18th Century fried chicken recipe has taken the Internet by storm.
In the “Fried Chicken In The 18th Century?” clip, host Jonathan Townsend gives step-by-step instructions on how to properly cook the pan-fried fowl of our forefathers.
The secret is in the marinade— lemon juice, vinegar, salt, pepper, bay leaves and chopped green onions —which gives the chicken its old-timey taste, as well as frying it in lard or clarified butter.
