5 Jack Daniel’s Cocktails Perfect for World Whiskey Day

Let’s get Jacked.

As fas as made-up Internet food holidays go, World Whiskey Day has to be one of our absolute favorites. This is said with apologies to National Crouton Day, National Ballpoint Pen Day, and yes, even National Lima Bean Respect Day.

(Those are real. Seriously.)

To celebrate that magical date dedicated to our collective love of the brown stuff, Jack Daniel’s enlisted Bay Area bartender Eric Grenier to create two new cocktails specifically for J.D.: the bracing Meltwater Effect and the coffee liqueur-spiked Cooper’s Cocktail.

Neither is quite as quick as simply pouring yourself a shot of Jack, of course, but both cocktails are easy enough to make at home without much trouble, provided you have the proper ingredients and bar tools.

The Cooper’s Cocktail

2 oz. Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select
.5 oz. Cynar
.5 oz. Coffee Liqueur (St. George NOLA preferred)

Tools: Mixing Vessel, Barspoon, Hawthorne Strainer

Directions: Stir all ingredients in mixing vessel (about 20-30 seconds). Strain over ice into Rocks or Old Fashioned glass.

The Meltwater Effect

2 oz. Jack Daniel’s Gentleman Jack
1 oz. Sorel Liqueur
 .75 oz. Amaro Ramazzotti
2 Dashes Orange bitters
Thin Lemon peel

Tools: Mixing Vessel, Barspoon, Hawthorne Strainer

Directions: Stir first four ingredients in mixing glass filled with ice until properly chilled and diluted, about 20-30 seconds. Strain into Rock or Old Fashioned Glass and garnish with lemon peel.

Want more? You’re in luck. Here are three classic Jack Daniel’s cocktails to enjoy:

Old Fashioned

2 oz. Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select
1 tsp. Maple syrup
3 dashes Angostura
1 Orange peel garnish

Tools: Muddler, Bar Spoon

Directions: Place everything but whiskey into rocks or Old Fashioned glass. Muddle gently to express oils from the peel. Add whiskey and ice. Stir well (about 15-20 revolutions).

Whiskey Mule

2 oz. Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select
3 lemon wedges
3 sprigs fresh thyme
3 sprigs fresh rosemary
1 oz. honey syrup
1 oz. ginger beer

Tools: Boston Shaker, Hawthorne strainer

Directions: Add two lemon wedges and two sprigs of rosemary and two sprigs of thyme to shaker. Muddle to release oils from herbs and juice from lemons. Add honey syrup, Single Barrel Select, and fill copper mug (or regular glass) with ice. Shake vigorously to combine, strain over an ice-filled mug, and top with ginger beer. Garnish with lemon, rosemary, and thyme.

Gentleman’s Tea Thyme

1 750 Jack Daniel’s Gentleman Jack
1 quart chamomile tea chilled
1 cup honey syrup
1 pint fresh lemonade
2 lemons sliced into thin rounds
1 bunch fresh thyme

Directions: Add all ingredients to punch bowl, stir with a block of ice. Add thyme and lemons and serve.
