Apocalypse Now! Is McDonald’s Really Killing the Dollar Menu?

Our long national nightmare has just begun.

According to a report in AdAge, America’s most venerable of fast food institutions is replacing its beloved “Dollar Menu” with a “Dollar-and-Up” alternative from November 4 this year. Hmmm…that sounds distinctly like a “More Than a Dollar Menu” to us. The excuse is “pricing flexibility,” which sounds suspiciously fishy, perhaps even fisher than a Filet-O-Fish (which, in fairness, already runs at the exorbitant rate of up to two dollars a sandwich. Outrageous! Yes, this is the world we live in. It’s unclear how this change will actually affect prices on individual items, but the beauty of the dollar menu is (was?) that if you wanted a snack, you could grab a delicious cheeseburger rather than, say, a candy bar or bag of chips for the same price. And the fact that you could get those tiny, delicious cheeseburgers for so little is one of the things that has made America the glory that it is.
