Teenage “Bad Guy” singer Billie Eilish is about to be $25 million richer thanks to an Apple TV+ deal that includes a documentary about her.
That’s the astronomical sum being reported by multiple sources, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie, which has already been shot on a budget between $1 and $2 million, was directed by R.J. Cutler and produced in collaboration with Interscope Records, the 17-year-old superstar’s current label.
The doc will likely provide a glimpse into private and public aspects of Eilish’s life since the release of her smash debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? that saw Eilish score multiple Grammy nominations and be named Apple Music’s Artist of the Year.
However, Variety reports that the doc is just part of an overall deal and not the entire deal itself, and that the $25 million figure is “wrong,” according to “a source close to the situation.” Variety also reported that the blockbuster deal is still not official.
Eilish has had a breakout year, to put it mildly. The Grammy-nominated When We All Fall, Where Do We Go? was the most-played album on both Apple Music and Spotify in 2019.
The Los Angeles-bred vocalist, who is set to headline the streaming service’s first-ever Apple Music Awards, has also landed 17 tracks on the Billboard Hot 100 since December of 2018, including the chart-topping “Bad Guy.”
A clip of her Jimmy Kimmel Live appearance from late November, in which she revealed that she’d never heard of legendary ’80s rock band Van Halen, recently went viral, and she was featured on a special digital cover of Rolling Stone alongside Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong.
The Billie Eilish documentary is expected to arrive on Apple TV+ in 2020.
