The first photos of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel have surfaced online.
The 28-year-old Oscar winner, who won Best Actress for Room in 2015, will play the superhero in her own standalone Marvel movie, slated for a March 8, 2019 release, and then again in Avengers 4, expected to come out May 3, 2019.
Captain Marvel, whose real name is Carol Danvers, was originally an Air Force pilot, before an accident caused her DNA to get mixed up with that of a “Kree” alien.
The mishap leaves her able to fly, with super strength and with the power to shoot bursts of energy from her hands.
The paparazzi photos were taken from the movie set in Atlanta. Larson previously shared this tease on her Instagram:
Fans seem to be on board with Larson taking on the role. Still, many were shocked to see her donning a teal costume, rather than the red, blue and gold suit for which Captain Marvel is best known.

But other comic experts suggested that the outfit could very well be a flashback to Captain Marvel’s technologically advanced militaristic Kree race origins. Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel wasn’t red and blue in the early years.
“Carol Danvers didn’t start out with the now iconic red suit until her solo 2012 comic series,” MovieWeb.com wrote.
“Don’t worry, comic book fans,” The Nerdist wrote, explaining they had seen a version of Captain Marvel’s red outfit and “we’re fairly certain that Larson will be wearing it in Captain Marvel … But that doesn’t answer our biggest question: what’s up with all of the green?”
That said, plenty of uneasy fans righted the perceived wrong, photoshopping the costume to be red, blue and gold.
Whether or not the more recognizable suit ends up in the film, fans can celebrate one confirmed accomplishments of the film: Captain Marvel will be the first female-led Marvel movie.
