Casey Affleck Played the Perfect Boston Donut Customer in This Hilarious ‘SNL’ Digital Short
This was some wicked good satire.
Actor and director Casey Affleck co-hosted the final Saturday Night Live of 2016 along with his beard and musical guest Chance the Rapper. It wasn’t a great show, though Chance the Rapper delivered in his musical numbers and Affleck — whose onscreen presence often seems generally more intense than his brother Ben’s — showed he had some comedy chops.
The best sketch was a fake Dunkin Donuts spot featuring Affleck as a prototypical blue collar Boston guy expressing his love for Dunks in what was a pretty authentically Boston way.
The funniest part of the spot was how it barely felt like parody to anyone who’s ever regularly visited a Boston Dunkin Donuts. This line alone was perfect: “Grab a cruller, have an extra large, three Parliaments, take a big dump, that’s kinda the routine.”
The only other real standout sketch featured Kate McKinnon as an insane recurring character who has odd, otherworldly encounters of various kinds. She along with Cecily Strong and Casey Affleck played adults who had supposedly met the real Santa Claus. As usual, Kate’s character went through an entirely different and completely insane experience.
Saturday Night Live returns Jan. 14, 2017, with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story lead Felicity Jones as host.
