Charlize Theron Won’t Star in the Mad Max: Fury Road Sequel
We want more Imperator Furiosa.
It’s no secret that Charlize Theron’s gritty, one-armed, gun-toting, war rig-driving, ass-kicking Imperator Furiosa stole the show from Tom Hardy’s titular Max in Mad Max: Fury Road. And with director George Miller announcing two follow-ups to Fury Road last week, we mostly hoped we’d get to see Furiosa’s storyline unfold even further.
Unfortunately, Miller let us down in a recent interview with Digital Spy.
“I’m not sure, is the answer,” Miller said when Digital Spy asked him if Theron would return. “She’s not in the Mad Max [sequel] story, but in one of the stories there’s an interaction between [Max and Furiosa]. I can’t really say more than that because it’s still in progress.”
He also revealed more about the mysterious followups. “That name came out, that was just a working title,” he said of Mad Max: The Wasteland. “Nico Lathouris and I wrote deep backstories on all the characters and they eventually became screenplays — so we have two [more movies].”
Suddenly, Max saying “you know, hope is a mistake” rings very true.
