Watch Rock Legend David Crosby’s Scorching Takedown of Kanye West

Here’s a pop star smackdown you didn’t see coming: David Crosby, once the hard-partying avatar of fluffy, laid-back hippie folk rock, has some damned opinions about Kanye “Yeezus” West. They aren’t good opinions, either.

The helium-voiced singer appeared on Andy Cohen’s Bravo talker Watch What Happens Live (WWHL) to promote a new album, and Cohen sought his opinions on current pop stars. According to David Crosby, Kanye West “can neither sing, nor write, nor play.”

Ouch. Worse still, as far as Crosby is concerned, is Ye’s famously healthy ego. “The thing that bugs me about him is the ‘I’m the greatest living rock star,'” he said, “Somebody needs to drive him over to Stevie Wonder’s house right now so he understands what a real one is.”

Damn. There’s angry and then there’s elderly hippie angry. Crosby wasn’t done, either. As far as he’s concerned, someone should give Kanye “all of Ray Charles’s catalogue so he can learn how to sing.”

No one would dare suggest that Crosby—once the kind of 60s and early 70s icon who seemed destined to do himself in with substances—needs to leave sobriety behind, but we suspect Kanye fans might suggest the guy take a chill pill.

We can agree with Crosby on this: Stevie Wonder is the man, no doubt about it.
