Robert DeNiro and Martin Scorsese Are Reuniting the ‘Taxi Driver’ Cast for the Movie’s 40th Anniversary

You talkin' to me?

The cast of Martin Scorsese’s iconic 1976 masterpiece Taxi Driver will reunite April 21st at the Tribeca Film Festival for a 40th anniversary tribute to the gritty New York noir classic.

De Niro, Scorsese, Jodie Foster, Cybill Shepherd, and writer Paul Schrader will attend the landmark reunion at Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre, which includes a screening and panel discussion moderated by film critic Kent Jones.

Taxi Driver, which traces the harrowing descent of disturbed Vietnam vet-turned-cabbie Travis Bickle and his obsessions with a pretty campaign worker (Shepherd) and a child prostitute (Foster) ranks among Scorsese’s greatest works, along with Raging Bull and Goodfellas, which was celebrated at Tribeca last year for its 25th anniversary.

“It’s odd to think that four decades have passed since we shot Taxi Driver on the streets of a very different New York City,” Scorsese said in a statement.

“It was made in a surge of energy, starting with Paul’s one-of-a-kind script, and I was working with an extraordinary group of artistic collaborators as anyone could ever hope for — Jodie, who was 13 years old at the time, and Bob gave the picture something precious, dangerous and altogether remarkable. I’m honored to take part in the celebration of the film’s 40th anniversary at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.”

Sony Pictures has digitally restored and re-mastered Taxi Driver to 4K from the film’s original negative for a limited theatrical release and subsequent on-demand release.

Tickets for the 40th anniversary reunion go on sale via beacontheatre.com on March 24. The Tribeca Film Festival runs April 13-24.
