Actual Drug Smugglers Helped Make Ghost Recon: Wildlands

Give it up for the development team, keeping things authentic.

In an effort to keep Ghost Recon the most authentic military shooter it can be, the team behind the latest installment, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, went to some impressive lengths, including reportedly speaking with drug smugglers to get certain details nailed down. Um, what?

Ubisoft Paris’s latest development diary goes behind the scenes of Wildlands and shows off footage of said drug smugglers being interviewed (well, they’re guys with masks over their faces who look pretty shady, but who knows?). They also spoke to military dudes and other experts. All in all, they clearly went to great pains to ensure the product they were creating was as realistic as possible–without of course the endless waiting around while reading back issues of Maxim, the physical risk, and the killing people that goes along with being in an actual special forces unit.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands is an upcoming addition to the best-selling stealth action series from Tom Clancy and it’s currently in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
