9 Refreshing Rum Cocktails That Anyone Can Make
Because a good drink should be both easy and refreshing.
August 16th marks National Rum Day, an industry holiday designed to encourage the liquor-drinking masses to indulge in some sweet, sweet Caribbean nectar. To be honest, rum is an odd spirit. Unlike vodka or whiskey, it’s hardly enjoyable on the rocks, and classic mixed drinks like the cuba libre tend to be heavy on sweetness and light on taste.
With this in mind, we reached out to our friends at Gosling’s Rum and Bully Boy Distillers for the simplest, tastiest rum cocktails they could think of. Enjoy!
Bull Moose
1 ½ oz. Boston Rum
2 oz. white grapefruit juice
2 oz. tonic water
Combine ingredients over ice in highball glass
Planter’s Punch
3 oz. Boston Rum
1 ½ oz. simple syrup
¾ oz. lemon juice
Add crushed ice to highball glass until half full
Stir
Top with crushed ice
Garnish with a mint sprig
Black Beauty
1 ½oz Gosling’s Black Seal Rum
3 fresh blackberries
3-4 fresh mint leaves
½ oz fresh lime juice
½ oz simple syrup
2oz Soda water
Muddle blackberries with mint, simple syrup and lime
Add Black Seal Rum
Shake and strain over fresh ice in a rocks glass
Top with soda water and garnish with a lime slice and a fresh mint sprig
Bloody Gosling’s
2oz Black Seal Rum
4 oz Tomato Juice
Spices (Fresh Horseradish, Celery Salt, Black Pepper, Lea & Perrins Worcestershire, Tabasco)
¼ oz Fresh Lemon Juice
Build in Boston Shaker, quick shake
Strain over fresh ice in a highball glass
Garnish with a lemon slice and celery stalk
Cajun Lemonade
2 oz. of Bully Boy White Rum
¾ oz. Pimm’s
½ oz. simple syrup
¼ oz. lemon juice
Stir ingredients together in highball glass
Add crushed ice
Top with 7UP
Float three drops of Tabasco
Americana
1 ½ oz. Bully Boy White Rum
4 oz. Orange Crush
Slice of lime
Stir ingredients together in lowball glass
Add ice cubes
Garnish with lime
Rum Swizzle
1 oz Gosling’s Black Seal Rum
1 oz Gosling’s Gold Rum
1 oz pineapple Juice
1 oz Orange Juice
1 dash of Grenadine
1 dash of Angostura Bitters
Pour ingredients over crushed ice in lowball glass
Stir vigorously until foam appears
Sally’s Tea
1 ½ oz. of Boston Rum
4 oz. iced tea
1 oz. lemonade
Add six mint leaves
Stir ingredients together in lowball glass
Add ice cubes
Dark & Stormy
1.5 oz Gosling’s Dark Rum
1 can Gosling’s ginger beer
1 lime
Mix Gosling’s ginger beer and rum
Run lime around rim and drop in (optional)
