Stone won for her role in La La Land, an overall improbable success story in 21st Century Hollywood.
We don’t know if this indicates a renaissance for the movie musical, but we do know Emma Stone’s win is a huge validation for a talented actress who shines in every film she does, whether it’s a clunker like Aloha or a charmer like La La Land.
