Epic Buzzer Beater Carries Minnesota Hockey Through Frozen Four

The Golden Gophers prove that NCAA hockey is still worth watching.

A new demigod emerged from the Land of 10,000 Lakes last night, and his name is Justin Holl. In the Frozen Four semis (like the Final Four, but colder), while tied 1-1 (on a penalty kill no less), Holl put the friggin’ biscuit in the basket with only a sixth of a second left in the game to sneak the Minnesota Golden Gophers past their most heated rival, the North Dakota (Fighting) Sioux. The Gophers will play Union College for the title tomorrow night.

Since 1930, Minnesota and North Dakota have played 291 times, with the Gophers leading the series 146-130-15, and now they can tack on one more in the “W” column. Our extremely unreliable sources from inside the Minnesota locker room claim the celebration consisted of a ritualistic recital of “Kiss” by Minnesota’s own Prince, followed by a group log rolling competition. Do you believe in miracles? Ohhhhh yaaaaa!
