The Star Wars IX: The Rise of Skywalker promotional season is underway.

It’s not a formal thing, obviously, but you can pretty much predict there will be a steady flow of new peeks inside the upcoming and final film in this series over the next several months, right up to its premiere.

The new photos released today by Vanity Fair are especially impressive as the magazine conscripted legendary photographer Annie Liebovitz to make some compelling behind-the-scenes portraits of lead actors as well as activity on set.

As you might expect, she’s managed to add a certain gravity to her subject matter, which includes intense portraits of Daisy Ridley as Rey, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, and John Boyega as Finn—in addition to Oscar Isaac once again playing Poe, this time alongside Billy Dee Williams, roguish as ever in resuming the iconic role of Lando Calrissian.

There are interesting new characters as well, including Keri Russell in a (possibly) bad guy role as a character named “Zorri Bliss” (in the purple bodysuit and stylized gold helmet below).

Check out VF’s eye-popping ‘grams, then feel free read the actual article for more info, which is sure to get you stoked for the premiere of Rise of Skywalker on December 20, 2019.
