First Trailer For ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ Makes Splash Online

Here’s the first look at the sequel “Avatar”—which was the most successful movie of all time after debuting in 2009.

The long-awaited trailer to Avatar 2 has been out for a week, but you could only see it before movie theater screenings of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

But now, the teaser trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water, has finally hit YouTube, and it looks pretty amazing. It’s the first in a series of Avatar sequels from director James Cameron, and brings back Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña and Sigourney Weaver from the first movie,  which was the highest-grossing film of all time after debuting in 2009.

Slated to be released on Dec. 16, here’s the official plot synopsis from Disney:

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

The film stars Saldana, Worthington, Weaver, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and Kate Winslet.

Disney is also rereleasing the original Avatar in theaters starting on Sept. 23, to get fans pumped to see the all-new sequel.

Cameron has previously said that he aims to make up to five Avatar movies, and he apparently shot several of them. The Avatar sequels are set to come out every other year from now until 2028.
