Season 7 of HBO’s reigning fantasy drama Game of Thrones will be shorter than past seasons—at seven episodes rather than 10. But its scale will be no less epic.
A new photo released by Entertainment Weekly shows a battle-ready Khaleesi atop a massive dragon during a definitive medieval battle.
EW has the details.
Here we see Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) fulfilling her ancestral destiny atop one of her massive children as soldiers fight amid smoke and fire. The battle image looks like some epic fantasy painting even though it’s only a single frame of footage. And it represents only one of the major action sequences in the upcoming season, which debuts in July. “The dragons this year are the size of 747s,” director Matt Shakman previously told EW. “Drogon is the biggest of the bunch — his flame is 30-feet in diameter!”
EW unearthed six more photos from the forthcoming season—of Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), Tormund Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju), Littlefinger (Aidan Gillen) and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner).
Dragons the size of goddamn 747s are coming July 16, when the seventh season of Game of Thrones premieres on HBO.
