‘Game of Thrones’ Author George R.R. Martin Is Creating an All-New Westeros Project
Let’s learn more about Khaleesi, shall we?
While genius fantasy author George R.R. Martin may not finish his series of novels that created the world of Game of Thrones any time soon, he’s certainly got some GoT irons in the fire these days.
On his blog, the author recently announced that he’s working on a project titled “The Sons of the Dragon.” It’s a “history rather than a traditional narrative,” writes Martin, and anyone who is “fascinated by the politics of Westeros” will love it. Martin continues:
As the title suggests, “The Sons of the Dragon” chronicles the reigns of the second and third Targaryen kings, Aenys I and Maegor the Cruel, along with their mothers, wives, sisters, children, friends, enemies, and rivals. If you’re read something to that effect on the web, good, that much is right.
Martin’s story is intended for publication in a volume by the author’s fellow sci-fi and fantasy scribe Gardner Dozois, The Book of Swords.
What do you get with this chunk of back story for the characters you’ve followed on HBO’s bloody and sexy series for years? A deep dive into the ancestors of none other than Khaleesi herself, Daenerys Targaryen.
Anything that tells more about the Mother of Dragons sounds like it’s worth the trouble to us.
