‘Gears of Wars 4’ Has A Very Familiar-Sounding Main Character
Like father, like son?
It’s been a while since our last proper brush with a numbered Gears of War game. The massively popular Xbox 360-exclusive third-person shooter quickly made a name for itself after its 2006 debut, rising through the ranks for two more official sequels. The spinoff Gears of War: Judgment was created as a prequel to the trilogy, but couldn’t quite capture the magic of the first three games.
Now we’re on track for Gears of War 4, the first numbered entry since Microsoft acquired the rights to the franchise from Epic Games. It’s shaping up to be one of the year’s biggest shooters, and we’ve finally laid our eyes on some of the first details to have emerged regarding the game’s cast and plot: We’re going to meet Delta Squad leader Marcus Fenix’s son, JD Fenix.
The latest cover reveal for Game Informer shows off Gears of War 4, set 25 years after the end of Gears of War 3, with JD Fenix having ran away from home to join the COG (Coalition of Ordered Governments) and gone AWOL through some sort of “classified incident,” just like his dad. Liam McIntyre of Spartacus fame is set to voice Fenix, with brand new characters Kait Diaz (Laura Bailey) and Delmont “Del” Walker (Eugene Byrd) revealed as companions.
There aren’t many other details regarding what we can expect from the game, but the Game Informer reports that this entry is said to go back to its “darker, horror-themed roots.” We’ll get our hands on the multiplayer beta this spring and sink our teeth into the full game this fall with two-player local co-op. In the immortal words of the Cole Train: “Yeah, woo! Bring it on, sucka!”
