Get To Know World Cup Group F

This week we take a look at what Argentina, Nigeria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Iran are bringing to the tournament.

With the World Cup just around the corner (OK, like a really big corner), we’ll be taking some time every Friday to investigate the best ball-kickers (it’s a technical term, don’t worry about it) of each World Cup group. Today, Group F, which is essentially just Lionel Messi, and everybody else.

Argentina

It’s not like the best player in the world needs any sort of advantage, but Lionel Messi and his squad could not have been drawn into a more cherry group. They should breeze through with maximum points. In fact, Messi could probably get through the group by himself (although Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Agüero are no schlubs either). Going deep in the tournament might be a different story though, as the European superpowers have surpassed what Argentina brings to the table.

Nigeria

Almost-champion Victor Moses, John Obi Mikel, and Peter Odemwingie are the face of Nigeria’s football team in England, but it’s their keeper, Vincent Enyeama of Lille, that really anchors this team. He’s been the go-to goal-minder for Nigeria’s disappointing dismissal in the group stages of the 2002 and 2006 competitions, but he’s considered one of the best keepers in the tournament, and this group’s weaknesses might lead to the Nigerians seeing the knockout stage once again.

Bosnia-Herzegovina

The Dragons are coming into their first major tournament as an independent full of confidence, and they have a fortunate draw to go along with it. Man City’s Edin Džeko will probably have to put a few past the aforementioned Vincent Enyeama and take three points from Nigeria right in the middle of their group schedule, but they have a real chance of seeing the next round on their first World Cup outing.

Iran

This is a much better group than Iran could have conceivably been drawn into, but they will still probably have to hit the bricks after this round. Thanks for playing, Iran!
