Gus Fring Is a Really Scary Boss In This New Training Video From ‘Better Call Saul’

“I like to think… I see things in people.”

Breaking Bad villain Gus Fring is returning in the upcoming third season of Bad‘s prequel series, Better Call Saul. Viewers have some idea of what Fring is like from the first show. He’s a modest, composed, successful businessman with a chain of restaurants in the public eye, and a completely ruthless meth kingpin in private.

In this new video from Saul, Giancarlo Esposito’s Fring gives us a strong feeling that Gus the fried chicken entrepreneur isn’t necessarily that different from Gus the drug lord after all.

The video is a two-minute “training video” for new employees of Gus’s franchise, Los Pollos Hermanos. It seems at first like Gus is playing it totally straight, but as it continues it’s not hard to sense an undertone of something else—especially during the otherwise cutesy animated segment in the middle of the video, when Gus outlines possible distractions employees could face while on the job.

If a viewer were watching this with no knowledge of either Saul or Breaking Bad they might understandably wonder if they’d want to work for a boss who seems so intense

Show creators have hinted that the Gus we meet in Saul won’t quite yet be the cold and deadly trafficker who rivaled Bryan Cranston’s Walter White/Heisenberg, but it’s obvious here that he’s close enough.

We’ll learn just how hardcore Gus is prepared to be when Better Call Saul premieres on April 10.
