Khalil Edney unleashed what will be one of the plays of the year with his buzzer-beater as New Rochelle beat Mount Vernon in the New York Section 1 Class AA Boys Basketball Championship.

It was one of the most improbable shots you will ever see.

New Rochelle was inbounding the ball under its own basket with 2.9 seconds left, down 60-58. Edney played the inbound and tried to heave the ball as close to the hoop as possible. The pass was tipped near half court and grabbed by a Mount Vernon player.

Rather than simply holding the ball for a few seconds, the player lofted the ball up in the air a bit in what looked to be either a pass to a teammate or a weak attempt at wasting the remaining seconds. Edney snatched the pass and sent up a right-handed prayer that hit nothing but net as time expired.
