He may not be the next James Bond, but it looks like we’ll get to see Idris Elba kicking ass and taking names around the globe.
Deadline reports that the 43-year-old Golden Globe winner is currently pumping iron and mastering his uppercut for the upcoming three-part Discovery Channel docuseries Idris Elba: Fighter.

The series, now filming, will trail The Wire star as he trains to become a kickboxer in locations like Japan, South Africa, and Cuba, sampling various fighting tactics from around the world. But that’s only half the battle.
The series will reportedly culminate in a fight between the actor and a veteran fighter, although Deadline is mum as to who will meet the wrath of Elba (we can only assume he’ll put up one hell of a fight).
I mean, just check out the footage he’s been teasing on Instagram:

“It has been a lifelong ambition of mine to fight professionally,” said Elba, who is already an actor/designer/DJ/drag racer/Maxim coverguy. “Entering the ring to further test myself as a human being is a challenge I have been looking to take on for quite some time.”
Elba’s not entirely wet behind the ears, however. He reportedly kickboxed in his twenties, because of course.
