The Game of Thrones prequel set a thousand years before the events of the series may well be titled Blood Moon (possibly styled Bloodmoon). Or not. But whatever the final title is, we do know for sure the series has been filming in Europe, including in Italy.
That’s where some eagle-eyed photographer caught series star Naomi Watts on film in full costume, specifically as she made her way down a sidewalk outside Italy’s Grotta del Turco.

At least it certainly looks like Watts. The person who made the video, first published in an Instagram story, labeled it “Attrice protagonista beccata,” or (basically), ‘lead actress caught!’
In close-up, she’s walking with what looks to be a pair of behind-the-scenes staffers and is clad in a regal-looking, long gold dress, her blonde hair piled on her head. There’s definitely a feeling that she might be playing some kind of royalty.
Yeah, it’s guesswork at this point, because here’s the prequel’s synopsis, such as it is, from HBO:
Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.
From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend, only one thing is for sure: It’s not the story we think we know.
OK.
One thing we know for sure is this series will be in different hands creatively than Thrones. Showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff made some controversial choices in the megahit’s final season so they’re probably fine with that—screenwriter Jane Goldman and George R.R. Martin himself are taking over more of the creative legwork.
As to when we’ll get to see just why Naomi Watts—who though a big name is said to be a member of a true ensemble cast—was wearing this golden getup, that’s still up in the air. Blood Moon may not make it to air until 2021.
We’re sure there will still be plenty of GoT fans eager to watch whenever it happens.
