UFC 194 takes place on Saturday, December 12 in Las Vegas, and Irish wild man Conor McGregor will square off against Jose Aldo for the featherweight title.
Naturally the UFC’s biggest stars are there for the run up to the fight, and Friday night bantamweight champion Holly Holm was on stage for a question-and-answer session. That was when an Irish Conor McGregor fan—perhaps after a few brews, we’re gonna guess—stepped to the mic in the audience and instead of asking a question, did what Irishmen have been doing brilliantly since St. Patrick banished snakes from their land: he launched into a loving serenade.
The unnamed Irish fan essayed his own, slightly mangled version of Frankie Valli’s 1967 hit, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” It might have merely been cringeworthy for Holm but for the fact the audience then picked up the tune and acted as the Irishman’s backup singers, which launched the moment from uncomfortable into goofily cinematic.
This is about as fun and silly as anything UFC-related can get, and it couldn’t happen to a nicer champ.
