Here’s Why Jeff Bridges Almost Skipped Out on Playing The Dude in ‘The Big Lebowski’

It had nothing to do with Shabbos.

Jeff Bridges is a Hollywood icon, but where would the 66-year old actor be now if it wasn’t for his Eagles-hating role in the cult classic, The Big Lebowski?

The most infamous dude of all time told Conan O’Brien that back in 1997, he almost passed on being The Dude for the sake of his children.

“I’ll tell you what, on that one, it was tough,” Bridges said. “I read the script; I loved the script, but I’m playing this pothead guy, not that I have anything against potheads. … [But] I know there’s kind of a downside to being the kid of a famous person; there’s a lot of baggage. I thought, you know, I don’t know how my girls — I had three young girls at the time — how they were going to feel. How they were going to get teased or how they would feel about that.”

Luckily for us—and Lebowski freaks everywhere—one of his daughters gave Bridges the push he needed to secure his status in cinema history.

Let’s raise a White Russian to that.
