Jerry Seinfeld Is Taking Up Residency at New York’s Beacon Theater

Welcome home, Jerry.

Forget the dry, gaudy hustle of Las Vegas or the concrete wasteland of Los Angeles — Jerry Seinfeld is coming home to New York.

The beloved comedian his first residency at the Beacon Theater on the Upper West Side, where he’ll perform Jerry Seinfeld: The Homestand once a month starting on January 7th, according to TheHollywood Reporter

“My favorite theater in New York to person in has always been The Beacon. Comedians live for certain houses that just feel ‘alive’ for some reason,” the “what’s-the-deal-with” Seinfeld said in a statement. “The Beacon is that place for me and I am so excited to it my new home.”

Don’t expect the comedian to settle into a cushy residency so he can dick around and count his Seinfeld money. In an interview with the New York Times, Seinfeld told audiences that they can expect to see “the lineup of my best hitters.”

“You will see my best show here, every time I do it,” he told the paper. “This is not a workshop.”

After months of infrequent projects — random shows at clubs and scattered installments of his web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee — Seinfeld seems ready to jump back into the world of stand-up comedy that made him who he was prior to his Seinfeld mega-fame. And what better place to do it than the 2,800-seat Beacon Theater, a mecca for New York comedians?

“When Billy Joel does New York State of Mind at the Garden, it’s different,” Seinfeld told the Times of his inspiration to return to New York for his first residency. “It sounds different. It feels different than when he does it in Charlotte. So, I thought this is a really unique moment to see a guy who’d come from this area and built his career.”
