Jets QB Geno Smith Got His Jaw Broken By His Own Teammate
So much for this season.
A locker room fight has threatened to sabotage the New York Jets’ upcoming season before it even begins. QB Geno Smith’s jaw was broken by what head coach Todd Bowles termed a sucker punch, after Smith reportedly put his finger in I.K. Enemkpali’s face.
The New York Timesreports Enemkpali played 6 games as a rookie with the Jets and also noted what now seems like a prophetic statement in Enemkpali’s NFL draft profile, where he said he was “Highly competitive, plays hard and motor runs hot. Keeps battling to the quarterback.”
Enemkpali was immediately released from the team.
“It’s something we don’t tolerate,” Jets coach Todd Bowles told the New York Post, calling the incident “childish.” “It’s something we can’t stand. You don’t walk up to another man and punch him in the face.”
Smith will be out for up to 10 weeks and will need surgery on his busted jaw.
