Jonah Hill and Emma Stone’s Dark Comedy Series Is Coming to Netflix

Cary Fukunaga is directing. What could go wrong?

Jonah Hill and Emma Stone are teaming up to star in an upcoming half-hour dark comedy series, Maniac, for Netflix. And it sounds like it’s going to be great: Maniac is based on the 2014 Norwegian series about a man who *thinks* he’s living his fantasy dream life but is actually locked up in a mental institution. The way I see it is who cares if you’re locked up in a mental institution as long as you’re living your best life?

Scandanavian cultural imports to the U.S. tend to do quite well — see Karl Ove Knausgård’s My Struggle; Let the Right One In; A-ha. Also, Cary Fukunaga, the primary reason True Detective Season 1 was so much better than Season 2, is directing. Someone is going to have to really screw this up for Netflix not to have a huge hit on their hands.
