Kanye West Is Running for President

Yeezus 2020 makes a lot of sense.

Tonight at the VMAs, Kanye West received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award to commemorate a lifetime of achievements. After being presented with the award by Taylor Swift (a nod to the 2009 VMAs, during which West interrupted Swift when she was accepting her Moonman for Best Female Video), West took the stage for a long, eloquent speech. He mused about the incident, the hatred he inspires in his detractors, artistic freedom, and more (“brands are not going to rule our kids!”) — and also admitted to smoking a little weed beforehand. Complex posted the entire transcript here

“I just wanted people to like me more. But fuck that, bro. 2015. I will die for the art for what I believe in and the art ain’t always gonna be polite.

We’re not gonna control our kids with brands. We’re not gonna tech low self esteem and hate to our kids. We’re gonna teach our kids that they can be something. that they can stand up for themselves. To believe in themselves and if my grandfather was here right now, he would not let me back down.”

He closed out his speech (watch it below) with one very important announcement: he’s running for president in 2020. Sounds like a plan to us. Now, to find a running mate…
