Killer Mike Just Dropped the Mic on Presidential Race

Lefties may have just found their new champion.

Killer Mike has long espoused progressive politics through his cutting rhymes in Run the Jewels, and proved himself a formidable talk show pundit , M.I.T. lecturer, and newspaper columnist, so it’s hardly surprising that he’s backing Bernie Sanders for president.

But during his powerful introduction of the Vermont Senator at an Atlanta rally Monday night (while wearing a Run the Jewels sweat shirt) KM threw enough red meat to the pumped-up crowd that his desire to run for a Georgia state representative seat seems like a very intriguing possibility.

In a six-minute speech repeatedly interrupted by thunderous applause, the 40-year-old rapper, whose real name is Michael Render, expertly worked the faithful into a liberal lather calling for Sanders favorites like universal health care, free college education, and ending the War on Drugs.

“In my heart of hearts, I truly believe that Sen. Bernie Sanders is the right man to lead this country,” the Atlanta rapper and activist said. You can watch the whole speech here:

Killer Mike even sneaked in some rhymes from his 2012 single, “Untitled”, saying “I have said in many a rap, I don’t trust the church or the government/Democrat or a Republican/A Pope or a bishop or them other men.

“But after spending five hours tonight with someone who has spent the last 50 years radically fighting for your rights and mine, I can tell you that I am very proud tonight to announce the next president of the United States: Senator Bernie Sanders.”

While it’s highly unlikely that Killer Mike’s endorsement will stop Sanders from getting steamrolled by the Hillary Clinton machine in the primaries, it sure is fun to watch him make his case.
