Kings of Leon’s sixth album, Mechanical Bull, isn’t out until the fall, but the Tennessee foursome knows that the dog days of summer call for catchy, dirty, soulful rock & roll. That their new track is called “Supersoaker” is just an added bonus. When the band first made waves a decade ago, long before they morphed into U2-like stadium rockers, observers called them ” The Southern Strokes;” chalk it up to shaggy hair, skinny jeans, and garage-y guitars. On “Supersoaker” – with its chiming riffs and pounding percussion – the Kings live up to that long-dormant nickname, and give fans a perfect summer anthem. Look for Mechanical Bull on September 24, and catch the band on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Monday night.
