Liam Neeson to Star as ‘Deep Throat’ in Watergate Scandal Thriller
Leaking is just one more of his very particular set of skills.
Liam Neeson is trading in his fists for some files.
The Taken star and resurgent Hollywood action staple will star in a new political thriller about ‘Deep Throat,’ the secret informant who precipitated the fall of President Richard Nixon in the aftermath of the 1972 Watergate scandal, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The movie, entitled Felt, will see Neeson portray Mark Felt, the former FBI associate director who leaked information to Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein connecting the five men arrested for breaking into Democratic National Committee HQ at the Watergate complex to President Nixon. Felt revealed himself in 2005 to be the anonymous ‘Deep Throat’ source in Woodward and Bernstein’s reporting.
“In Felt, Felt will be seen as someone disheartened that the organization he works for is involved in cover-up but also who is torn apart as he leaks information,” reportsTHR. “It is also being described as a spy thriller.”
THR also reported that Peter Landesman, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the highly-anticipated Will Smith NFL drama Concussion, will direct the film.
