Tyler Perry Will Host a Live Musical About Jesus

Fox will broadcast a live musical version of The Passion, the story of Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection

First there was The Sound of Music, then there was Peter Pan (sad face), then there was The Wiz, and now Fox is getting into the live musical broadcast game with The Passion, the story of how Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. Tyler Perry (I Can Do Bad All By Myself) will narrate.

The Passion will air on Palm Sunday (which is March 20th this year, but you already knew that) and Fox promises a star-studded ensemble, with only Perry named as part of the cast so far. Glee‘s Adam Anders is on board for the musical arrangements. The filming will reportedly take place in the Holy Land of New Orleans, “culminating in a procession of hundreds carrying a 20-foot, illuminated cross from Champion Square outside the Superdome to the live stage at Woldenburg Park on the banks of the Mississippi River,” according to Fox’s press statement.

Sweet Jesus.
