Meet Hubertus Von Hohenlohe: The Most Bizarre Athlete at Sochi’s Winter Olympics

The Mexican skier (who is barely Mexican) is making the Olympics amazing.

This year, the oldest athlete at the Olympics is also the weirdest. Mexico’s lone athlete (they don’t have much of a winter south of the border) is Hubertus Von Hohenlohe, a 55-year-old alpine skier. Hubertus was born in Mexico, but hasn’t lived there as a permanent resident since he was 4 (although he does have quite the pad in Cabo San Lucas). As the son of a German Prince, and a Prince himself (although the principality he rules over doesn’t exist anymore), Hubertus took the natural career path that was laid out before him: Sub-par Olympic alpine skier, photographer, and outlandish pop star performing under the name “Andy Himalaya.” Maybe it’s best if we let Andy describe this all himself…

Now that things are crystal clear, you’ll also be happy to know that Hubertus will be skiing in a skintight Mariachi-inspired getup, because of course he is.

Catch Hubertus in the men’s alpine skiing this week or just close your eyes after taking a dangerous amount of mescaline. He’s likely to come in dead last, but just maybe he’ll take home the gold – weirder things have happened.

Oh, wait, no, we just checked. Weirder things have never happened. This would be the weirdest.
