Aaron Sorkin, the idiosyncratic screenwriter behind A Few Good Men, The Social Network and The Newsroom, makes his long-awaited directoral debut with Molly’s Game.
The biopic, which just debuted its first trailer, details the rise and fall of Molly Bloom (Jessica Chastain), a hard-edged former professional skier who finds her second calling in underground poker.
In short order, Molly amasses celebrity clientele and more power and money than she knows what to do with.
“I was in a room with movie stars, directors and business titans. They were going all-in, all the time.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end. The trailer also charts her run-ins with the FBI, with Idris Elba on the case as her criminal defense lawyer.
The film is based on the autobiographical 2014 novel Molly’s Game: From Hollywood’s Elite to Wall Street’s Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker. Thankfully, Aaron shortened the title.
See how it all pans out on November 22, when Molly’s Game hits theaters.
