MTV, which debuted a Scream reboot series last year, is continuing to go after ’90s nostalgia with a vengeance. And now its forthcoming throwback channel, MTV Classic, will air enduring 1990s favorites like Beavis and Butt-Head, Daria, and MTV Unplugged.
Taking over VH1 Classic on Aug. 1, the new cable channel will boast an “an eclectic mix of fan-favorite MTV series and music programming drawn from across its rich history, with a special focus on the 1990s and early 2000s,” according to a statement from Viacom.
So all that addictive early-aughts reality trash, like Pimp My Ride, Cribs, Punk’d, and Jackass, will get some love too.
The changeover will go down exactly 35 years after MTV first debuted on Aug. 1, 1981. To commemorate the anniversary, the new network will launch with an “MTV Hour One” retrospective spectacle that will “replicate the first hour of programming in MTV’s history.”

Viewers will get their ’90s fix during the week, and the binge-prone can go all out on weekends, with marathons of reality shows like Real World and Laguna Beach.
Re-runs of MTV Unplugged will feature memorable performances from greats like Nirvana and Bob Dylan.
“MTV’s programming vault is a music and pop culture goldmine with universal resonance,” MTV President Sean Atkins said in a statement.
