We’re Getting a New Charlie’s Angels Movie
Elizabeth Banks is in talks to direct the franchise reboot.
Because the world is round, another classic movie franchise is getting the reboot treatment: This time it’s Charlie’s Angels, and Elizabeth Banks will reportedly direct.
Originally a 1970s hit television series, Charlie’s Angels put Farrah Fawcett on the map; the blonde bombshell was, along with Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith, part of a detective trio who worked for a mysterious, unseen benefactor. In 2000, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Lui, Cameron Diaz, and Bill Murray starred in a movie adaptation of the show. While the first Charlie’s Angels action movie was a hit, the sequel was a failure — despite numerous shots of Demi Moore in a bikini.
But perhaps the franchise will have better luck with Banks behind the camera. The Hunger Games and 40 Year-Old Virgin actress directed Pitch Perfect 2, one of this summer’s biggest box office hits.
No word yet on who might be joining the cast, but we probably shouldn’t rule Banks out as one of the Angels.
