Every trailer and poster for Creed II seems to promise what could be one of the greatest boxing movies in years. The new one above is no exception, and it calls back to the Rocky franchise in 100 different ways.
In the sequel, Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis Creed has matured and is in a relationship, but he still needs the ring, saying “If we don’t do what we love, then we wouldn’t exist.” Rocky is doubling down on his mentor relationship with Adonis as well—he sees a fight with Ivan Drago’s son as a death match.
Here’s the Warner Brothers synopsis:
Life has become a balancing act for Adonis Creed. Between personal obligations and training for his next big fight, he is up against the challenge of his life. Facing an opponent with ties to his family’s past only intensifies his impending battle in the ring. Rocky Balboa is there by his side through it all and, together, Rocky and Adonis will confront their shared legacy, question what’s worth fighting for, and discover that nothing’s more important than family.
Creed II is about going back to basics to rediscover what made you a champion in the first place, and remembering that, no matter where you go, you can’t escape your history.
Creed II is clearly about Adonis avenging his father and about Rocky’s fears. Trailers predict a thrill ride and a movie full of powerful emotions.
Get ready for fists to start flying when Creed II premieres in theaters on November 21.
