Watch This Intense New Trailer For HBO’s ‘Westworld’

The sci-fi western may be the cable network’s darkest show yet.

We’ve always known that HBO’s science fiction series Westworld was going to be weird as hell.

Starring Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood, Westworld has been promoted as “a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.”

The show’s creepy first teaser revealed only hints at a plot built around science turned evil. When added to tales of extras agreeing to full-on “genital-to-genital” contact, it was clear we were in for something deeply strange and unsettling.

The latest trailer continues to dive deep into the dark world of the Wild West, revealing that it may be the humanoid characters who have the most to fear, not the flesh and blood humans in charge. We’re introduced to Dolores, the main character (Evan Rachel Wood), who slowly but surely grows aware of the dangers she may face.

We have a little over a month until Westworld‘s release. It seems HBO is banking on a solid replacement for Game of Thrones in the form of this big budget, Jonathan Nolan-created, J.J. Abrams-produced show, which is based on a 1973 Yul Brynner film with the same title.

Westworld, starring Evan Rachel Wood, Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Thandie Newton, and James Marsden, premieres October 2nd on HBO.
