The Next Far Cry Is Set in the Stone Age

Things are about to get primal on your console.

It’s time to take a trip into the past with the latest iteration of Far Cry. And by a trip into the past, unfortunately we don’t mean a sequel to the ’80s-tinged Far Cry: Blood Dragon.

The latest outing is officially Far Cry Primal, a first-person adventure set all the way in 10,000 BC. Roll back the rock to the dawn of time (yes, that’s a We’re Back! A Dinosaur Story reference) and take on the role of Takkar, caveman hunter and the very last of his hunting group. The only goal Takkar has is to survive in a world where humans are prey, falling victim here and there to sabretooth tigers and woolly mammoths.

This isn’t your typical Far Cry — and maybe that’s a good thing! Players will be charged with hunting, gathering, discovering and mastering fire, and creating their own tools to tame the savage lands of Oros. It may sound like visiting CostCo on the weekend, but it sounds like a very unique experience, especially since the Far Cry franchise is exploring a totally new frontier. Consider us interested.

Far Cry Primal won’t ship until March 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, so at the very least it won’t be caught up in the deluge of games that drop every holiday season. That’s also plenty of time for you to learn how to speak caveman, because seriously, how else are you going to figure out what’s going on with all the grunting and guttural noises?
