Want to feel old? That butt-naked Nirvana baby is now 25 years old, and he recreated the iconic cover of the band’s Nevermind album for its 25th anniversary.
Spencer Elden, who’s noticeably larger and hairier than his former naked-baby self, told The New York Post, “It’s strange that I did this for five minutes when I was four months old and it became this really iconic image.”
“It’s cool but weird to be part of something so important that I don’t even remember,” added Elden, now an artist in Los Angeles.

It’s a pity he doesn’t remember taking part in one of the most indelible images in rock history. Even worse, he told The Post he actually prefers The Clash over Nirvana (for shame).
But we can all breathe easy that Elden and the image’s photographer, John Chappie, decided to cover up this time.
“I said to the photographer, ‘Let’s do it naked.’ But he thought that would be weird, so I wore my swim shorts,” Elden said.
Below, watch him discuss both the blessing and curse of having the world’s most-seen baby penis:
“I went to a baseball game on opening day of the Dodgers, and I was looking out at all the people,” Elden recounts of one particularly surreal experience. “I had a moment where I was like, ‘Man, all these people have seen my baby penis as a baby.'”
We can only imagine.
Nevermind, which gave us “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and made unwittingly made Spencer Elden alt-rock’s most famous baby, was released on September 24, 1991.
