The Official Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp Trailer Drops

Just in time for the Fourth of July weekend, your favorite summer campers are back.

After teasing us with a vintage eighties-inspired camp advert last week, Netflix has released the first official, full-length trailer for its prequel seriesWet Hot American Summer: The First Day of Camp. And something is a bit different…

The new trailer does well by the show’s promise to poke fun at its now woefully miscast lineup. In the opening bit of dialogue, H. Jon Benjamin calls attention to the glaring detail that the returning actors, now mostly in their mid-forties, will be masquerading as gawky teenagers in jorts and tube socks. A balding Christopher Meloni in a schlocky costume wig really drives home the message.

However, we’d be remiss if we didn’t touch upon the hotness of a little role-playing. Amy Poehler reignites our childhood crushes as authoritative camp counselor Susie while Elizabeth Banks is traffic-stopping with bare midriff and adolescent spunk. We definitely don’t mind the age disparity…

New counselor Kristen Wiig makes a brief appearance as a coquettish camp siren while fellow newcomers Jason Schwartzman, Chris Pine, Michael Cera, Weird Al Yankovic and Jon Hamm also announce their arrival to Camp Firewood.

The eight-episode series will premiere on Netflix on July 31st.
