No one is on a field or court playing a sport for public consumption right now. The new Coronavirus Pandemic has shut down the NBA, Major League Soccer, the NHL, the XFL, Golf and Major League Baseball.
So PBS is stepping up with free streaming of the most engaging and comprehensive sports documentary series ever made, Ken Burns’s Baseball.
With events canceled & so much closed, I asked @PBS to stream BASEBALL for free so we can participate in the national pastime together. Watch at the link below or on any streaming device. And please look out for those with greater needs. Play ball. @MLB https://t.co/WaQLSpeYkF pic.twitter.com/QYp1XE0SLC

The docuseries is available for free on the public broadcaster’s website and online streaming platforms. Burns is the man to thank for this.
He tweeted about it, writing that because so many events have been canceled and venues closed, he “asked @PBS to stream BASEBALL for free so we can participate in the national pastime together. Watch at the link below or on any streaming device. And please look out for those with greater needs. Play ball. @MLB https://www.pbs.org/show/baseball/.”
If PBS doesn’t do it for you, Fast Company has published instructions on “How to get the best free trials for Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus, and more.” They make a good point streaming media:
We don’t know what’s next, but it’s important to stay sane and entertained during this period of #QuarantineAndChill. One of the best things we can do to keep our minds off of our real life drama is streaming our hearts out.
Since streaming services won’t bail us out with discounts and free subscriptions, we have to figure out ways to keep the costs down. Aside from password sharing, there’s also the free trial hustle. All you need is an email address that hasn’t been registered yet (wink).
If you’re all about classical music and opera, the Metropolitan Opera is also launching “Nightly Opera Streams.” You don’t need to like opera to stream it—but you may have a neighbor you’d like to drive out of the building.
With apologies to the Met, we’re streaming Baseball, ASAP. Everyone needs a nice, summery escape from all the Coronavirus drama right about now.
