Watch Prince’s Blistering Solo In This All-Star Jam of ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’
This is just incredible.
Prince was so renowned for his mind-blowing live sets that it’s impossible to pick just one moment that summed up his staggering pop genius. But this 2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction performance may come close, given how many times fans have shared it since the beloved musical icon died on Thursday at age 57.
Prince joined Tom Petty (whose “Free Fallin'” Prince later called “one of of my favorite songs”), Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne and others to salute George Harrison’s legacy with “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and Prince’s blistering two-minute solo at the end of the Beatles classic elevated the all-star jam to what Rolling Stone called “the single greatest musical moment at any Rock Hall induction ceremony in its history.”
Watch for yourself, and consider the casual majesty with which Prince tosses his guitar up in the air and swaggers off stage right after boiling everyone’s brains with his scorching chops. “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” was never really the same after that, and neither were we.
