Queen Elizabeth Refuses to Sit on the Iron Throne
No word on whether the monarch actually watches Game of Thrones.
Her Majesty the Queen of England traveled to Belfast this week, and – as one does in Northern Ireland – paid a visit to the set of HBO’s Game of Thrones. While there, she reportedly schmoozed with several members of the cast, including Lena Headey (CerseiLannister), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Rose Leslie (Ygritte), and Kit Harington (Jon Snow), and was given a tour by the show’s creators, David Benioff and Dan Weiss. What she didn’t do was sit on the Iron Throne. Perhaps she thought such a perch would be unseemly; perhaps she was worried about getting Joffrey’s germs on her matching hat, coat, and white gloves; perhaps sitting on a prop throne is less thrilling when you’ve occupied a real one since 1952.
Watch a moderately awkward and lengthy video of the visit below. Or just skip to around 36:00 to catch a glimpse of Ygritte and Jon Snow, together again, standing side-by-side in the presence of the one true queen.
