Raymond Felton Added to Mount Rushmore of Dumb Athletes Busted for Guns
The Knick is in hot water, but he isn’t the first.
In what can only be described as “a totally appropriate move for the Knicks’ season,” point guard Raymond Felton was charged with a double-shot of felony weaponspossession after donning an FN Five-Seven – a ridiculously over-the-top gun for a civilian to own; especially a civilian that is only averaging 10.4 points per game – during an argument with his estranged wife. Felton joins a pantheon of athletes to get hit with felony gun charges, so we thought it fitting to present our favorite armed imbeciles from the world of sports.
Plaxico Burress – A fellow New Yorker who caught similar charges to Felton after he shot himself in the leg in a nightclub after his handgun fell out of the waistband of his pants. Really this could have happened to any of us. That is, if you are a famous athlete who is carrying an improperly secured gun with the safety off in a crowded midtown club. You know, any of us.
Delonte West – The former Cavs guard – who may or may not have taken his talents to a certain teammate’s mom – was pulled over on his motorcycle (a three-wheeled motorcycle, in case this wasn’t weird enough) in 2009, where he was found to be carrying two handguns and a shotgun in a guitar case. You know, like Desperado, except instead of killing the bad guys and making out with Salma Hayek, he just had to do a bunch of community service and wear an ankle monitor.
Gilbert Arenas – The final head on the monument of loaded athlete stupidity is Gilbert Arenas, who took his guns into the Wizards locker room, even bringing them out during an argument with teammate Javaris Crittenton over gambling debts. Arenas (like Delonte West) is currently playing in China, which is probably smart, considering the Chinese are known for being super-lenient with the law.
