Michael Myers was sometimes called The Shape in draft scripts for the first Halloween. It’s kind of a shame that nickname didn’t stick to the killer who has come to rival cinematic monsters like Freddie Krueger or even Dracula, because something about it fits him perfectly.
In this new trailer for the upcoming followup to the first film (it completely ignores pretty much every movie in between), Myers is definitely in Shape mode, and Jamie Lee Curtis’s Laurie Strode is in full-on revenge mode.
This preview has everything that made the first movie great, which is promising. The original Halloween was terrifying in part because it was just so simple. A faceless psychopath is on the loose, and he’s going to kill whoever crosses his path.
Even the cinematography in the 1978 John Carpenter was straightforward, and if this trailer is any indication, then the 2018 Halloween has returned to form.
Here’s the synopsis: “It’s been 40 years since Laurie Strode survived a vicious attack from crazed killer Michael Myers on Halloween night. She now faces a terrifying showdown when Michael returns to Haddonfield, Ill. — but this time, Laurie is ready for him.”
Pretty much all we need to know.
Halloween stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Nick Castle. It’s in theaters October 19.
