Fight fans are always celebrating huge knock outs and brutal blows. Hell, we’ve already done it once today. It’s easy to forget that these 30 second YouTube clips are a part of someone’s life, and they can often have devastating outcomes. Consider Steve Watts, an amateur MMA fighter who broke his neck during a botched body slam last year. He’s now paralyzed.
If there’s a silver lining here, it’s that Watts has the world’s baddest woman on his side. Ronda Rousey recently reached out to Watts with a heartfelt video message. She encouraged him to fight through his recovery and reassured him that this horrific injury happened for a reason. We don’t know about that, but Rousey gets credit for going out of her way to show some empathy here.

Despite her meteoric rise to stardom, Rousey maintains a personable touch that is pretty rare in celebrity athletes today. It’s just another reason to love her as much as we do.
