Seth Rogen’s ‘Sausage Party’ Is the Pixar-Style Movie for Adults We Never Knew We Needed

TFW you think you’re meant to be a housepet, but then you’re dinner.

When we first heard about Sausage Party, an animated film from the Seth Rogen-Evan Goldberg universe, we thought it sounded kind of dumb. But now the trailer is here, and it actually looks pretty good. It’s kind of like Toy Story for adults. Adults who are stoned.

There is no doubt that pot played a part in the conception of Sausage Party, which has a premise that’s both clever and heartbreaking: Sentient cold cuts and produce items spend their days hoping to be adopted into a nice home, kind of like shelter dogs. But unlike those at-risk animals, the killing comes after they’ve found shelter. Once they realize the truth about their fates, the edibles must run for their lives and find a way to warn their friends still on the shelves.

Seth Rogen voices a starring sausage character, and he’s joined in the supermarket cart by Kristen Wiig, Michael Cera, and Jonah Hill. Sausage Party is reportedly the first Pixar-style film to be given an R-rating, and it is definitely not for kids.

Sausage Party opens on August 12.
