Watch Scarlett Johansson Blast Bad Guys in the First Full Trailer For ‘Ghost in The Shell’

It’s like ‘The Matrix’ meets ‘Blade Runner.’

Scarlett Johansson‘s upcoming sci-fi action flick Ghost in the Shell has been the subject of some controversy already, based on “white-washing” claims from fans of the original Japanese comics upon which it is based. The first trailer for the film may not help, but it certainly makes a statement: Johansson does action well, and the filmmakers aren’t afraid to nod to their inspirations.

In just over two action-packed minutes fans of classic films like The Matrix and—perhaps especially—Blade Runner will find a lot to love. Johansson fans will be pleased as well. While her character is supposedly an almost sexless cyborg, Ghost in the Shell‘s visuals and scenes glimpsed in the trailer are slick and strangely sensual. It’s innately intriguing to anyone unfamiliar with the story, and sure to help fill a few theaters.

Plus, at the beginning we get the bonus of an introduction from Johansson herself.

The Major and her elite law enforcement unit, Section 9, will show audiences how they handle a new and singular threat when the film hits theaters on March 31, 2017.
